Have you ever wondered, “How can I get my students to independently read and comprehend texts at the level I know they are capable of? How do I teach my students to independently read, think, and write about texts at the level demanded by our standards - even when I’m not there to support them?”
In this session educators will learn about the power of a Reader’s Notebook and how it supports students in comprehending independently read texts. The Reader’s Notebook is part of a carefully structured literacy block where even the youngest learners are independently reading and responding to self-selected texts. An overview of how to use Readers’ Notebooks as an instructional strategy will be provided, as well as authentic student examples and resources. This session is appropriate for K-5 educators who are looking for ways to develop student independence in reading, thinking and writing about texts in authentic and meaningful ways.
