Readers, writers, and thinkers unite! Comprehension hinges on a strong vocabulary. Recent studies have shown that vocabulary is THE strongest predictor of achievement in comprehension (Gunning, 2018). Educators need to examine carefully the time and strategies used during intentional vocabulary instruction. This focus on vocabulary and academic language supports reading and writing in all content areas, concept development, and confidence as a learner. This interactive session demonstrates numerous doable and effective ways to teach vocabulary and academic language in pre-K-3rd grade classrooms. All content is clearly linked to state standards.
