This session will help support adolescent learners in motivating and accessible content literacy knowledge. Participants will engage as students in a multimodal text set on animal conservation that includes podcasts, picture books, YouTube videos, documentaries, blogs, and music. Participants will engage in adolescent literacy strategies that help provide students with access to meaning making, including (but not limited to) a GIST strategy for listening to podcasts, using hashtags for summarizing, and a debate protocol for opinion writing. This session will provide tools that teachers can take back to their classrooms tomorrow to help students access critical world knowledge and guide inquiry using 21st century literacy methods.
