Close reading of texts should keep students engaged and encourage inquiry. Students should be actively engaged wondering what is going on in the text, how does this information relate to my life, why am I reading this text, and what strategies and skills will I need to be able to read and understand? This presentation will cover three areas: building background knowledge for a text, text-annotation, and strategic comprehension. These practices apply to a digital-based learning environment. Attendees will leave with ready to implement strategies and resources.
