The booklets that turn kids into history buffs

Teachers and parents tell us that Tennessee History for Kids booklets are different than anything that the students have ever read; that kids like reading them; and that the books have the remarkable trait of helping to turn normal students into history buffs. Why? Because they identify and focus on the INTERESTING and UNUSUAL thing about a historical event, making more of an impression on the mind of the reader than the simple (and more conventional) recitation of facts and dates. In this session, author “History Bill” gives several examples of this from his booklets—such as Justin Timberlake’s connection to the French and Indian War in Tennessee; the Manhattan Project’s connection to the USS Indianapolis; a 1941 murder’s connection to the tent city movement; and the story of how Nashville’s most famous unionist came up with a nickname for the American flag.
